{DTBST #318) It is the day of the Dawning of Aquarius!

Here's my ode to all the February birthday's out there! The Sassy Studio Designs blog challenge this week is "It's all the Same: make a monochromatic project!
I am loving the colors on this one!!! Of course I wanted to do it in aquas for Aquarius, and I went a little toward the green end of monochromatic to give the image some more pop! I haven't quite mastered coloring skin tones in non-traditional colors, so I also used my artistic license there too, and went with my go-to colors. LOL!   The image can be found in the zodiac section of the shop; just scroll down the images until you see it.

Copic colors: Skin: E04, 21, 51, 50, R11. Lips: BG49, 15, 32, W5. Hair: BG 49, 15, YG11, W5. Eyes: W5, 100, BG49, 32, YG03. Background: BG32, YG11.

The image is partially cut with a rectangular die, with the image being fussy cut in the areas outside the rectangle. To do this, just place the die onto the image and lightly draw with a pencil where you want it to cut. Then fussy cut areas outside the pencil line. Now the die can be placed into the image; just put the cut out areas on top of the metal edge so they don't get cut off.
The background panel is a 3-D embossing folder from We R Memory Keepers. I was still trying to keep the theme; birthday, astrological signs, gemstone theory going...

Hope you will join the fun and give it a go. You don't need to use a SSD image to play along, but we love it when you do. Enter by next Wednesday night for your chance to win 2 SSD images of your choice.

There is some extra incentive for using a SSD image,
you get to enter twice. So if you use one, make sure you
link to your blog post and the second link can just be to your blog
(it won't let you link to the same post twice). After your name, please put SSD, so we know why you are linking twice!

{DTBST #317} Birthday Cake Sassy Style!

Welcome to another Dare To Be Sassy Thursday! This week's challenge is to use any image with 3 papers, 2 buttons, 1 ribbon... Here's my take with one of my favorite Sassy images. Just go to the birthday section of the shop and scroll down until you see it!

The papers I used were from a coordinated paper pack; Colorbok-Homespun Collection. I wanted to paper-piece her dress, so I just shaded it with Copics (YR02, 01) and a gold metallic marker.
Two buttons, which were die cut from the same paper pack and MFT button dies. These were cut 3 x on yellow cardstock and 1 x on patterned paper. I was originally going to have yellow buttons, but I wanted to tie in more of the aqua color.
One ribbon; well, I am hoping between the gold embroidery floss and the ribbon on the image, this will count!
 ; )    It's all interpretive, right!?

Here's the Copic color list: Skin: E04, 11, 21, 00, R20. Hair: (I am liking this combo!) Y28, 26, 21, E50. Eyes: 100, W5, BG15, 13, G00. Boots, lips, ribbon: W5, R27, 21, RV34, 32. (I love this combo too!!) Cake: E53, 51, 50, R21, BG15, 13, G00.

Hope you will join the fun and give it a go. You don't need to use a SSD image to play along, but we love it when you do. Enter by next Wednesday night for your chance to win 2 SSD images of your choice.

(The image I used on my card is Praying Portrait and can be found in this section, just scroll down. Link up to the challenge on the Sassy Studio Blog!)

This one was a stretch out of my comfort zone, but I have always admired others cards with this theme. The paper pack I used was from Colorbok-Homespun with some Core'dination Paper from Tim Holtz that was embossed and sanded for the background. The card base is Baked Brown Sugar from Stampin' Up. The word "prayers" is from a Simon Says Die that was cut and layered 4 x on SU! Pool Party cardstock. One of the sets of leaves is also cut and layered from this, with the top layer run through an embossing folder, and then a darker teal inkpad swiped over the top. Pool Party ribbon is also used, along with wired gold ribbon, and ribbon roses in an ivory shade. Lace is cut and placed to frame my colored panel. Colored brown pearls from my stash were also added.

This image was also colored with Copic markers as follows: Background: BG72, 11, 10. Skin: E04, 21, 51, 50, R20. Lips: R56, RV34, 32. I forgot to write my hair colors...

Thanks for checking out the details on my blog, and I hope you enjoyed all the inspiration from the team! Now it's your turn to link up a creation!

{DTBST #315} Anything Goes!

What a great/easy challenge to get your mojo flowing in the new year! The challenge can be found on the blog: here!  The image I used can be found: here, just scroll down until you find Capricorn!

Hope you will join the fun and give it a go. You don't need to use a SSD image to play along, but we love it when you do. Enter by next Wednesday night for your chance to win 2 SSD images of your choice.

Here's the recipe for my card: Copics! I did the background first because I wanted to drip alcohol onto it to move the color around, and this way my image would not get ruined because it would not be colored -and I could push out the red that bled into it with the colorless blender!
R59, 27, 17, 05 and 91% alcohol with dropper. Let dry and add more alcohol if desired!
Skin: E04, 51, 21, 50, R11. Hair: E49, 77, 84, 74. Eyes: E49, 84, Y21, W3, 100. Lips: R27, 22, 20, W05. Horns (I know, right!): E55, 42, 81, 84, Gold Wink of Stella glitter brush pen. Tail (again, right!?): R22, 20, 11, E42, and Clear and Gold Wink of Stella glitter brush pen.

The fishtail banner is cut from MFT's large stax and then cut in half so I could stretch it out under my colored panel. This piece is from a gold/foil paper pack. The background panel card base is actually ivory, but photographed lighter than in real life! There are a few random, red sequins glued on with a drop of red glitter glue you can see if you look closely...
